The Howden Pumpkin is traditionally used in North America as the Halloween pumpkin as it has firm walls and is easy to clean.
Very sprawling in it's growth habit, it needs to be allowed to spread to it's heats content.
The final size of the fruit is larger larger than most Australian pumpkins but does not have as much 'meat' as our traditional varieties.
Best planted alone as they will happily cross pollinate with most other varieties, varying the fruit considerably.
The seeds strike a little inconsistently but it just means that you stagger your planting out.
These are a mild flavoured pumpkin and one vine usually produces up to 8 fruit in a normal season.
Late Spring germination is usually successful.
