East Indian Basil or Tea Bush, is a shrubby perennial in the same genus as the annual Basils, with woody stems and typical Basil spikes of flowers.
Tea Bush has a slightly citrus taste and lends itself beautifully to cuisine, but can be enjoyed often as a ‘Tea’.
We use the tea to relieve lower back pain and the occasional cold, as it lowers fever by promoting perspiration.
In large quantities it can be purgative, so it is best to maintain smaller doses of the herb.
Once cooled and strained, the tea can be used quite successfully as a mild eye bath for sore eyes.
